The Master Cleanser is based on a simple maple syrup liquid diet. Some people use it as a detox cleanser, others like myself use it to get rid of some weight quickly. While on the Master Cleanser you can lose between 15-20 pounds in only ten days. I recalled hearing that Beyonce lost 22 pounds while staring in the movie, “Dreamgirls” I searched the Internet and discovered the Master Cleanse. Initially, I came across advertisers selling it as a product, but it is simple to make yourself. The ingredients are as follows:
1/2 fresh lemon juice, 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper, 2 tbsp grade B maple syrup and 8 oz of water.
The Master Cleanse detox diet , is also known as the Lemonade Diet. I don’t know why it is called that because the main ingredient besides water is the maple syrup. If I had to guess it’s probably because the “Lemonade diet” sounds a lot healthier than the “Maple syrup diet“. What ever name you want to call the detox, it was created by Stanley Burroughs in 1941. I discovered this information on Wikipedia, check it out if you want more information on the Master Cleanse. Some of the information on Wikipedia is negative about this detox but I think it’s subjective.
I am normally able to maintain a consistent weight. One motivator is not having to keep buying various sized clothing to keep up with fluctuating weight. I’m not stick skinny. My regular weight is slightly over my recommended Body Mass Index (BMI). I personally think it’s better to be 5-10 pounds overweight than underweight; you never know when you might catch the flu.
Well, due to some job related stress and excess eating while on vacation I managed to pack on a few pounds. In the summer, I tend to wear looser clothing, sun dresses and such. Towards the end of my vacation I felt a little more plumper or voluptuous as I like to say. But, I had no idea what I actually weighed until I got on the scale and realized I had gained 20 pounds.
There is a crossroad in weight gain. The moment you hit 20 pounds over your ideal weight you have to make an immediate decision about what you plan to do. The longer you keep the weight on the harder it is to lose it. You can continue to gain weight at a steady pace until you balloon out of control or you can try not to gain anymore weight and embrace the extra 20 pounds. On the other hand, you can leap into action by finding a plan and implanting it to lose the weight. I leapt into action not wanting to keep the extra pounds, because as I mentioned before. all my clothes are basically one size. Keeping the extra twenty would mean purchasing a whole new wardrobe. I’d rather buy some shoes instead.
Usually, I would lose the weight according to what some experts suggest, which it losing 2 pounds a week. Losing weight 2 pounds a week instead of a quickie fix is supposed to allow the body to keep the weight off longer. Also, it is less taxing physically. Ordinarily, This is how I keep my body in check. If I gain 5-7 pounds, I simply readjust my eating. losing 1-2 pounds until I get things back in order. Unfortunately, I didn’t have that kind of time because my vacation was almost over. It was crunch time, either buy new clothes or go to work bursting at the seams looking like the incredible She-Hulk.
Here was the hardest part, the recommended time for the detox is ten days! The first three are the hardest. I kept a journal and it helped a lot, if anyone is interested I’ll post it. The journal helped because you will feel as if you are going out of your mind, writing seemed to help. Also, you are supposed to drink 6-12 glasses a day. You’re supposed to sip the master cleanse only when you feel hungry. To say the least, I was sipping that stuff often! I was actually rationing it to make sure I had enough before I went to bed. To make matters worse during my detox I was visiting with relatives. Every hour, someone seemed to be eating something. Correction, someone seemed to be eating every five minutes. Oh, the agony!
Some sites recommended help with elimination by drinking a cup of herbal laxative tea each evening or a mild laxative. A saltwater drink was also mentioned as yet another alternative to aid in elimination. I did not want to use a laxative of any sort. However, by the third day, I did try the herbal tea, I drank it for two days. The tea I drank is called, Super Dieter’s Tea, lemon mint flavored. It’s a mild laxative and it did the job. Not to be gross, but I had to use it because I had not eliminated in three days. After ten days of not eating I was cranky, it was a challenge not to bite someone’s head off, no pun intended. I also experienced headaches. So between trying to remain pleasant, smelling/watching other people eat I literally felt crazy at times. I would only do this once in a blue moon as I do not intend to yo-yo up and down 20 pounds. The Master Cleanser can also be used solely as a detox. If you don’t want to lose weight you can add more maple syrup to the mixture. Some people also eat fruits and veggies when doing the detox.
Finally, drum roll please……. Did it work for me? Yes, it did! I lost a total of 21 pounds.
I intend to go back to my normal moderate eating, this way I won’t balloon back up again. For the first few days I have to drink liquids and slowly introduce solids by eating fruits and vegetables. Yes, I will have that occasionally splurge, Rome was not built in one day. Having one big meal or a special treat every now and again won‘t cause weight gain. Its, those every other day splurges that caused me to gain weight. Hmm.. I wonder what I will do with the money I saved not having to buy a new wardrobe?
P.S. Overweight is not unattractive, its about being healthy by maintaining a your weight within your BMI, eating healthy and exercising.
Peace
